Mary is a single woman who, though she dates (and has men spend the night! in the ’70s!), doesn’t get paired off by the series’ end, and it instead focses on her career, and she isn’t demonised for it. The show explores all sorts of social issues, from sexism in the workplace to divorce to LGBTQ romance (well, LG, but again – this is network TV FROM THE SEVENTIES), but is never preachy and remains consistently funny. And also, the wardrobe is ~amazing.~”
